How to save six weeks of development time on every project

Our client is part of UK law enforcement. We have been working with them to assist and improve their operational capability.
  • All technical project teams had to create their own user interface components before commencing work on the project itself.
  • This initial work would take around six weeks.
  • The resultant set of components struggled to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and lacked a common look and feel.
  • 1
We created a Common User Interface (CUI) template for all future project teams to use.
  • 2
We built the CUI to incorporate all the common components that a project is likely to need.
  • 3
We included an easy-to-read ‘how to’ guide to explain how to use each component.
  • The CUI has saved every project team around six weeks of development.
  • Adopting GOV.UK Design System principles, now all components have a common look and feel, reducing the time required to train users on new systems.
  • The client was delighted, explaining that “Triad went above and beyond with this piece of work. They also showcased the CUI to our community of developers, encouraging reuse and collaboration, which is hugely appreciated.”

Their story

Through our work with a UK law enforcement client, Triad identified an opportunity to save project teams the task of creating their own set of approved Common User Interface (CUI) components.
Avoiding work duplication

Previously, each project team designed the components, sought user feedback, reworked them, and ensured they were fully accessibility compliant and aligned with security best practices.

Saving six-weeks development time

Triad’s out-of-the-box user interface is now instantly available for any project, saving them about six weeks of development time.

A new one-click solution

With no additional configuration required, a single click of a button loads a “clean slate” user interface, ready to be configured for the specific needs of the project.

Adopting recognised design and accessibility principles

By adhering to the WCAG and basing the user interface template’s components on those of the GOV.UK Design System, we were able to take advantage of GOV.UK’s extensive user research and accessibility compliance.
